Information About The Dataset

With over 35% of properties in Ireland sharing the same address details, ensuring accurate deliveries and reliable customer data presents a unique challenge. Eircode, Ireland’s official postcode system introduced in 2015, was created to solve this problem.

Every postal address in the Republic of Ireland is now assigned a unique seven‑character Eircode, enabling fast, precise identification of individual properties—even where traditional addressing is ambiguous.

Hopewiser integrates this capability directly into our address lookup and validation solutions. By adding the Eircode dataset, you can validate Irish addresses and Eircodes at the point of entry, as well as append missing Eircodes to your existing records.

Our technology handles partial, incomplete, and poorly formatted addresses with ease, and is available via online lookup accounts, integrated solutions, standalone software, or bureau services. Bespoke systems and CRM integrations are also available for organisations with specific requirements.

Eircode provides two core data products:

Eircode Address File (ECAF)
The foundational dataset containing all 2.2 million Irish address points, each with its corresponding Eircode and Postal Address.
Eircode Address Database (ECAD)
An enhanced dataset that builds on ECAF, adding alias address information, geo‑coordinates, boundary data, building details, and more.

*ECAF is required before purchasing ECAD.

An Eircode follows the format A65 F4EZ, consisting of:

Routing Key (first three characters): Defines a principal post town delivery area.
Unique Identifier (last four characters): Distinguishes one address from another.

Eircodes are assigned to virtually all postal addresses—residential properties, apartments, rural homes, duplexes, business premises, public buildings, retail units, industrial estates, and more. Importantly, ECAF and ECAD do not contain personal or personalised data.
