Information About The Dataset

The Multiple Residence dataset, powered by Royal Mail PAF, provides essential visibility of properties where two or more dwellings share a single front door.

With over 826,000 sub‑premise addresses linked to 192,000 parent PAF addresses, the dataset covers self‑contained flats, subdivided houses, apartment blocks, halls of residence, nursing homes, and other multi‑occupancy buildings.

As more properties are converted into flats and high‑rise developments continue to grow, understanding how many dwellings share a letterbox has never been more important for accurate delivery and customer communication.

Using Multiple Residence data alongside PAF enables organisations to lookup and verify more than 800,000 additional premises, ensuring customer purchases, letters, and marketing materials reach the correct recipient.

This expanded visibility helps businesses avoid misdeliveries, reduce customer frustration, and improve operational efficiency across logistics, fulfilment, and service provision.

How Hopewiser Enhances Multiple Residence Data

Multiple Residence data cannot simply be added to PAF without causing conflicts during automatic matching.

Hopewiser resolves this by blending the datasets—removing conflicting entries and harmonising overlapping address structures. This approach delivers a significantly higher match rate than solutions that simply append Multiple Residence data to PAF.

Our blended method increases address matching by 0.36% across mixed datasets of PAF and non‑PAF addresses, compared to only 0.18% when the data is added without refinement. This difference is crucial for uniquely identifying sub‑premise addresses.

For example:

  • PAF: Flat 1–3, 31 West Street, Leicester, LE1 6XN
  • Multiple Residence: Flat 1, 31 West Street, Leicester, LE1 6XN

Without blending, “Flat 1” appears twice, making accurate matching difficult. Hopewiser’s process removes these conflicts, ensuring clean, reliable address identification.

Royal Mail PAF Multiple Residence Address Data

For organisations taking orders online or over the phone, Multiple Residence data is invaluable. It enables customers to select the correct dwelling, reduces abandoned carts caused by missing or unclear addresses, and eliminates duplicate or conflicting entries within your internal systems. The result is smoother onboarding, fewer delivery issues, and more accurate customer records.

Multiple Residence data is a powerful addition to any address validation strategy—especially when combined with Hopewiser’s expertise in data cleansing, matching, and address intelligence.
